Parked across the street from Road Rage, Dylan was certain that the guy who kept glancing in his direction was the bully who’d punched Zero the week before. He’d go inside, then come back ten or fifteen minutes later, lean against his bike and stare in Dylan’s direction. It gave him the creeps. Stalking the bar probably wasn’t the most brilliant idea ever, but it was at least a step above going back in there and getting pounded into the ground.

Since it was obvious that no one from the club would speak to him—not even the one guy who he’d thought had liked him—he’d taken to spending the last couple of evenings watching the place in the hopes that Jason would show up. Any of the other small leads he’d had about the missing man had proven futile, including one where someone swore they’d seen him in the nearby mountain town of Pine Cove working at the grocery store. The guy he’d spoken to had looked very much like Jason, but sadly, it hadn’t been him.

He sucked in a breath. The bully had tossed his cigarette to the ground, stamped it in the gravel and was on his way across the street toward Dylan’s car.

“Oh, shit.”

Dylan turned the key in his brand new starter—which he’d been informed by the biker who’d brought his car back had been courtesy of Zero—and floored it out of there. In his rear view he caught the bully running back to his bike and jumping on. He was so fucked if that man beast were to follow him and find out where he lived.

Eyes focused on the road, Dylan didn’t waste any time or take any chances checking to see if he was being chased. Even though the compulsion was there, he knew without looking. The bully would be on his tail and Dylan had an extraordinarily bad feeling about what he would do to Dylan if he caught up to him.

The smartest thing to do would be to head to a police station—just lead the asshole right to it. Dylan glanced down at his gas gauge. He gripped the steering wheel tighter as his gut clenched. No way would he have enough fuel to make it all the way into town. He’d planned on getting gas on the way home that night, but he wasn’t about to stop at Joe’s out-of-the-way station with one of the hounds of hell on his ass.

He was sure he could make it back to his place. Dylan pushed the pedal to the floor, his old car rattling in protest. If he could get there fast enough, he could run upstairs, barricade himself inside then call the police. There were so many things that could go wrong with his plan but he was in full panic mode, his heart beating so fast and high in his chest, he had the sensation he might choke on it.

Careening into the lot of his office at too high a rate of speed, he fishtailed and almost lost control.
